About Pyridine
A basic aromatic heterocycle that scavenges acid during acylations and sulfonylations, driving ester and amide formation to completion. Its lone pair on nitrogen makes it a useful nucleophilic catalyst, but the penetrating fish-like odour and hepatotoxicity keep it inside the fume hood.
