About Ethanol
A polar protic solvent used for recrystallisation, extraction, and botanical tinctures. A 70% v/v solution is the standard surface disinfectant because the water fraction slows evaporation enough to penetrate microbial cell walls; absolute ethanol is preferred when water would hydrolyse the analyte.
