About n-Hexane
A nonpolar alkane used to extract vegetable oils and as a cleaning solvent. Its metabolite 2,5-hexanedione causes peripheral neuropathy, so industrial exposure limits are strict; in the laboratory it is largely being replaced by heptane for the same extractions.
